10 JRPGs Gamers are Looking Forward to Playing in 2016

This year seems like it’s going to be a great year for JRPG fans.

Finally, the current gen console, mainly PS4, will see Japanese Role-play Games being released onto the platform.

Let’s check out 9 JRPGs that fans need to keep a look out for in 2016!

1. World of Final Fantasy

Long-time Final Fantasy fans will love this, it’s a chibi spin-off for the 3DS system that features the memorable characters.

In this game you can befriend the monsters (known as Mirages). Wait a minute, did this sounds like a Final Fantasy version of Pokemon?

2. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

The upcoming Digimon game by Bandi Namco features a teenager protagonist who is also an amateur hacker.

The game takes place in the virtual world of a next-gen Internet called Cyberspace Eden.

Like the movie Tron, players can travel to Eden, capture/befriend Digimon and solve a mysterious case of their friend whose consciousness is trapped back in the virtual world, leaving her physical body in coma.

Now this sounds like a classic Digimon game mixed with Shin Megami Tensei elements, making it a must play for JRPG fans!

3. Persona 5

The next flagship game in crazy popular Persona series, Persona 5 follows the same successful formula of mixing turn-based strategy, monster collecting system like Pokemon and high-school simulation.

The new game seems darker compared to the cheerful Persona 4 and graphic style that resembles Catherine.

Hope the game will have no more delays and that the localised version will be out by end of this year!

4. Bravely Second: End Layer

Bravely Default is one of the favourite games on 3DS for old-school JRPG lovers.

It’s one of the very few games today that still follow the original JRPG recipe of building a strong party and strategic turn-based combats.

The sequel takes place 2.5 years after the events of the first game and it’s a must-buy for gamers who enjoyed the first one.

5. Final Fantasy XV

Nothing short of awesomeness for Square Enix, the studio known for good looking characters with sharp feature.

What we’re more worried about is gameplay and story for this.

Especially when they announced that the game will be separated into episodes with different gameplay.

It’s gonna be a love or hate. Let’s hope that there are no more delays to this!

6. Dragon Quest Builders

At first, Dragon Quest Builders may seem like a Minecraft clone, but it’s more than a sandbox game.

Like the main franchise, Dragon Quest Builders has its story and RPG elements, providing more structure than Minecraft.

7. Dragon Quest XI

Dragon Quest XI looks like it’s gonna be a gem for old-school RPG lovers and new RPG lovers alike.

It features two view systems – a 2D one that’s like old-school games we love, and a 3D view for modern game lovers. Yes, we can switch between styles anytime!

8. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness

Developer trice finally returns after a full eight years. The new game is said to return to its roots – with classic character designs and simpler combat system.

9. Tales of Berseria

Tales of games are known for its moving character stories and design that make players feel like they’re thrown into the anime world.

The games usually follow the same structure and formula too, but the upcoming game will have a slight twist to it.

It stars a female lead and follows not a party but with the female lead and a young boy together.

10. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir

One of the most popular classic JRPG of all time, Odin Sphere was published for PS2 in 2008.

After almost ten years, Atlus announced that they will be remaking the game, with more than just HD upgrade, but also updated combat mechanics.

Remember, Atlus is the studio behind Dragon’s Crown too!
