News Kazune Kawahara Draws 2-Page Side Story for Sensei! Manga
Live-action film adaptation of manga opens in Japan on October 28

The November issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine published a two-page side story by Kazune Kawahara for her Sensei! manga on Friday. The side story is set a number of years after the ending of the original manga. The side story commemorates the opening of Sensei! ...Suki ni Natte mo Ii desu ka? (Teacher! ...Is it All Right For Me to Like You?), the live-action film adaptation of the manga, on October 28. The issue also includes a round-table discussion between Kawahara and the film's leads Suzu Hirose and Toma Ikuta.

The original manga's story centers on second-year high school student Hibiki Shimada, who is in love with her teacher Kōsaku Itō, a cold man who seems to hate girls, but is actually kind. The story begins when she accidentally puts a love letter entrusted to her by a friend in Kōsaku's shoe locker.

Kawahara launched the manga in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine in 1996, and ended it in 2003. Shueisha published 20 compiled book volumes for the manga. Kawahara collaborated with artist Aruko for the My Love Story!! manga, which inspired both a television anime in spring 2015, and a live-action film in October 2015. The manga ended in July 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks released the anime series on home video with an English dub last December.

Kawahara's Aozora Yell manga also inspired a live-action film, which opened in Japan last August. Additionally, Kawahara's High School Debut manga inspired a live-action film in April 2011.

Kawahara launched her latest Suteki na Kareshi manga in Bessatsu Margaret magazine in January.
