News World Trigger: Smash Borders Smartphone, PS Vita Game Ends Service in February
Game based on Daisuke Ashihara's manga launched in 2015

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on Thursday that it will end service on the World Trigger: Smash Borders game for iOS, Android, and PlayStation Vita on February 22, 2018. Sales of in-game "Crystals" will end on November 22.

Bandai Namco Entertainment originally released the "aim and hit smash action" game on iOS and Android devices in July 2015. In the game, players control a team of Trion soldiers to carry out defense missions from the Borders headquarters to repel Neighbor invasions. Players take aim at the Neighbors and shoot them to blow them away like playing billiards. If players can link attacks between members of a team, they can deal much more damage.

The game received a PS Vita port in 2016.

Daisuke Ashihara debuted the original World Trigger manga in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2013, and Shueisha published the manga's 18th volume on March 3. The manga entered an indefinite hiatus in November 2016 due to Ashihara's poor physical health.

Viz Media published the series simultaneously in its digital anthology version of Weekly Shonen Jump, and it publishes the manga in print.

A 48-episode television anime adaptation premiered in October 2014, and a 25-episode second season premiered in October 2015. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired.

The manga also inspired the fighting game World Trigger: Borderless Mission for the PS Vita, which shipped in Japan in September 2015.
