News Saint Seiya Gets 'Episode Zero' Manga Next Month
Story follows Sagittarius Aiolos protecting baby Athena

The January 2018 issue of Akita Shoten's Monthly Champion RED magazine announced on Friday that Masami Kurumada will launch a new short series titled Saint Seiya Episode Zero in the next issue on December 19. The story follows Gold Saint Sagittarius Aiolos protecting baby Athena.

Kurumada had announced in October that he was preparing a "surprising" new project.

Kurumuda is also drawing the Saint Seiya: Next Dimension - The Myth of Hades manga. The series finished its latest arc last month and will return for a new season "around next spring."

Kurumada published the original Saint Seiya manga from 1986 to 1990. The manga has inspired a number of television anime, OVAs, anime films, and spinoff manga. Netflix announced a new CG anime based on the original manga in August, and the Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō spinoff manga also has an anime in the works. A live-action Hollywood film has also been greenlit.

Viz Media published the original manga in English under the title Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō manga. ADV Films released Toei Animation's anime adaptation with an English dub under the title Knights of the Zodiac, and later released it unedited under the title Saint Seiya. New Video Group later also released the series on DVD.
