After witnessing the marvelous way Kimi no Na wa unfolded before your eyes like magic, I absolutely understand why you’re now looking for more anime carrying some resemblance. You just can’t help it. You’re now longing for stories that are capable of touching your heart and soul. I tell you this: “You’ve come to the right place!”

I have selected some titles that are fairly equivalent to Kimi no Na wa and listed them down here. They’re all decent, that’s for certain! In fact, you might even find them really pleasant and satisfying. Without further ado, go ahead and watch them. Just come and thank me later!

1. The Anthem of the Heart

An underrated glorious masterpiece—that’s what The Anthem of the Heart is! I fail to understand why this anime isn’t very popular. Truth be told, it has the potential to stand on the same stage as Kimi no Na wa. So if you haven’t watched it yet, I urge you to do so immediately.

The Anthem of the Heart tells a very meaningful story about expressing one’s own thoughts and feelings. It delivers the message that fairy tales can exist in this world, but not in the way that you would expect.

Not only is this anime beautiful in terms of art and plot, it also miraculously touches your heart with its magnificent music and sound. That being said, I assure you that this anime wasn’t given the title The Anthem of the Heart for nothing!

2. Patema Inverted

Just like Kimi no Na waPatema Inverted showcases a spectacular tale intertwining the fate two people living in two different worlds. In the case of this anime, the worlds presented are of those who are living with their feet on the ground but restricted from looking at the sky and those who are living inversely underground cursed to fall into the sky if they ever step out of their safe zone.

This anime is presented into two different perspectives: upright and inverted. Essentially, you can watch this show even if your screen is turned upside-down, which is quite meaningful per se. Notwithstanding its forgettable soundtrack, Patema Inverted counterbalances itself by delivering a unique perspective-altering experience merged with beautiful sceneries.

3. 5 Centimeters Per Second

Before anything else, here’s a fun fact: 5 Centimeters Per Second was also written and directed by Makoto Shinkai (writer and director of Kimi no Na wa). No wonder they’re both so similar yet also different in some aspects. Actually, I can see one major facet of 5 Centimeters Per Second as a total antithesis of that of Kimi no Na wa—the plot! If Kimi no Na wa beguiles us to witness the convergence of two people from two different worlds, then 5 Centimeters Per Second entices us to spectate the snailish divergence of two people who were once virtually inseparable.

5 Centimeters Per Second is an anime that will ensnare you and vigorously make you feel what the main characters are feeling. “Relatable” is actually the word the best suits it. Dovetailing everything with the gorgeously detailed visuals and carefully keyed melodies, this show is a work of art that will surely leave a long-lasting impression in you.
