Marvel, New York Jets Team for Promotions, Giveaways in 2018 Season

“J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! HULK SMASH!” While that won’t necessarily be the new chant around MetLife Stadium this fall, it’s about to become a lot less far-fetched of an idea: Marvel Entertainment and the NFL’s New York Jets have teamed up, starting with a Hulk-themed giveaway this October.

The Jets announced the partnership with Marvel today, emphasizing plans to include various Marvel features at their East Rutherford, New Jersey stadium throughout the 2018 season. First on the docket is a Hulk vs. Thor-themed “Green Out” on Oct. 21, when New York’s Gang Green face, appropriately enough, the Minnesota Vikings.

“We are excited to announce our new partnership with Marvel Entertainment,” said Jets President Neil Glat. “We are always looking for creative, new experiences and ideas for our fans, and we look forward to working with an iconic brand like Marvel.”

“Marvel is thrilled to be working with a partner like the New York Jets to provide fans new and unique ways to connect with the Marvel Universe,” added Marvel Publisher John Nee. “This multi-faceted partnership — including comics, game day collectibles and more — will bring some of our most popular characters like the Hulk and Thor directly to thousands of Marvel and New York Jets fans this season.”

Presented by Toyota, the Oct. 21 Green Out will put the spotlight on the Hulk and Thor rivalry, and will include a new, exclusive 16-page comic book written by famed comic creator Fabian Nicieza, a New Jersey native and long-time Jets fan. The comic will be produced by Marvel and distributed by the New York Jets.

The first 15,000 fans to arrive at the game will also receive a limited-edition Hulk bobblehead, while 55,000 limited-edition Hulk vs. Thor posters will be given out as fans exit at the game’s conclusion. Other announced features include a Hulk-themed Toyota vehicle that will be on display in the stadium, and Hulk vs. Thor video board elements throughout the game.

An eight-page, digital-only comic book, produced by Marvel, will also be released on Oct. 14, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Super Bowl III, when Joe Namath and the New York Jets famously defeated the then-Baltimore Colts. The first (of four) chapters will be available on Wednesday, Oct. 10 through the Official New York Jets app, newyorkjets.com and all Jets social channels.
