Top 10 Old-School Anime Remakes to Win Over Your Heart Again

Great anime sure has its ways of coming back to us.

Running home from school, sitting down in front of the TV and watching your favorite anime shows is a prized memory for a lot of people. But eventually we all had to grow up and make our way into adulthood.

What if we told you that you could get at least a little bit of your childhood magic back? That's right, there are old-school anime out there that have just recently gotten a reboot and with it a second chance to win over your heart.

10. Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

Since the mecha anime first aired from 1995-1996, Evangelion has become one of the most controversial and successful anime franchises in recent memory. So it makes sense for Hideaki Anno to produce a modern reboot of his series through four feature length films.

Still waiting for the release of Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Anno san.

9. Parasyte

Based off of Hitoshi Iwaaki's 1988 manga, it baffles me how Madhouse decides to produce a 24 episode anime in 2014. The anime didn't make a profit, but is a refreshing take on sci-fi and action oriented genre of anime.

8. The Heroic Legend of Arslan

The original novels were first adapted into 6 OVAs that ran from 1991-1995. It was remade into another anime series in 2015 based off a second manga series from 2013. Try and wrap your head around that timeline.

7. FLCL

When Production I.G acquired the rights to FLCL, they were also interested in remaking it. FLCL was an OVA series released between 2000-2001 and would be a really good fit in the Noitamina block today.

FLCL is a kooky coming-of-age story with surprisingly deep undertones as the twelve-year-old Naota develops through the wild antics of Haruko and matures along the way into adulthood.

6. Berserk: The Golden Age Arc

The gritty 1997 dark fantasy anime Berserk got its own special remake treatment. From 2012-2013, three films produced by Studio 4°C updated this edgy series with sleek designs, epic music, and new footage adapted from the manga that was never seen from the original anime.

5. Lupin III

Lupin and the gang are back in their first TV anime series in quite a while. The anime was first broadcasted In Italy, before airing in Japan on October 1st.

World's number one thief Lupin is back to get himself and his friends into new troubles. What's special about this remake is the fact that it was first announced in Cannes, France and later aired in Italy before making its way to Japan.

So if you are looking for a more international flair in anime or are simply interested in watching one of the best old-school anime out there, give the new Lupin III a try.

4. Dragon Ball Super

It's been quiet in the Dragon Ball franchise for a long time, but the wait is finally over. Dragon Ball Z is coming back under its new name Dragon Ball Super. Once again we have a remake to celebrate the start of a big success story.

For the 20th anniversary of Dragon Ball Z a new anime was created that continues the story of Gokuu, Piccolo, Vegeta, Gohan and the rest of the original cast after the events of the first series. Dragon Ball Super brings back the charm of the first series and has easily won over the hearts of loyal fans.

3. Digimon Adventure Tri

A new direct sequel to the 1999 series Digimon Adventures. Digimon Adventure Tri will be released through 6 theatrical films, with the first one slated for a November 21st, 2015 release.

That's right, the story of Taichi and his friends who get lost during a summer camp and enter the Digiworld continues. The occasion for this great remake is the 15th anniversary of the original series and we cannot think of a better way to celebrate.

2. Osomatsu-san

The anime comedy of six trouble making sextuplets first aired in 1966 as Osomatsu-kun , followed by another TV series in 1988. The story of the Osomatsu brothers is one of the biggest mangas in Japan.

Even though the sextuplets are identical in appearance, their personalities could not differ more from each other and constantly get them into new adventures. Their new series called Osomatsu-san or Mr. Osomatsu is part of the Fall anime season 2015 and offers hours of entertainment with 25 new episodes.

If you didn't get to grow up with the crazy stories of the Osomatsu brothers, then here is your second chance!

1. Sailor Moon Crystal

The beloved magical girl series first aired in March 7, 1992 and the franchise has since become a worldwide phenomenon among many young females.

Ever since its announcement, this reboot of the original series was highly anticipated. But instead of simply remaking the series from 1992-1997, the producers decided to create a new show with a storyline that is set much closer to the original manga series.
