Top 10 Best Angel Anime of All Time

Whether you are looking for celestial encounters or angels falling from the sky, this list has it all.

Their stories are filled with great adventures, fantastic worlds and mythical beings. Some of them are set in far-away places while others just combine a little bit of magic with everyday life. Here is our list of top 10 best angel anime of all time.

10. Pita Ten (Clinging Angel)

Everything changes for Kotaro when a strange girl knocks on his door and asks to be his friend. He agrees, but it soon turns out that Misha, as she is called, is in fact an angel in training and is doing her best to become an expert in her field.

Pita Ten is an adorable show that is aimed towards kids, but also entertains older viewers. It has a nostalgic feel to it and will give you a mix of Shounen, comedy, romance and fantasy.

9. Otogi Story Tenshi no Shippo (Angel Tales)

Here's an early harem series where literally all the girls are angels. Guardian angels, to be exact. Actually, each of the girls is a reincarnation of one of the main character's dead pets. So that's at least weird and interesting.

8. Koisuru Tenshi Angelique (Loving Angel Angelique)

This is one of those that walks the line between gods and angels. It's also a rarity in this genre - it's about hot guys surrounding a girl, rather than the opposite.

The men in question are guardians, set to protect the "chosen one," Ange, who was summoned to save the Cosmos of the Holy Beast. These guardians all control a particular element, so it isn't clear whether they're supposed to be the angels, or if Ange is.

7. Sousei no Aquarion (Genesis of Aquarion)

Angels are not only part of fantasy universes. Sometimes they appear in mecha shows featuring modern technologies and deadly weapons. Sousei no Aquarion has its own unique interpretation of angels.

As you can see, in this show they aren't kind beings sent to help you when you are in danger. Rather, they are the ultimate enemy of mankind and must be destroyed.

6. Kamisama Kazoku (God Family)

There are a lot of anime set from the human perspective of dealing with supernatural creatures. Kamisama Kazoku takes a bit of a different approach.

This is about Samatarou, the son of a god, and Tenko, his angel best friend and partner. The two of them, in true slice-of-life fashion, are learning what it means to be human by spending their time in the human realm.

5. Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan)

This OVA series split in two parts is obviously not meant to be taken serious and that is exactly the charm of this show. It is a parody of Magical Girl anime and uses a lot of blood, Ecchi scenes and similar obscenities to get their desired effect.

It is true that it is a mindless story with questionable humor, but it is one of the most creative uses of angels in anime, so if that's what you are looking for you have found the perfect show.

4. Sora no Otoshimono (Heaven's Lost Property)

So, one day, some strange girl falls from the sky and calls the first boy she sees "master." And off we go.

This anime is about a group of friends in the New World Discovery Club, trying to figure out the mysteries on the mysterious floating island known as the New World, where the Angeloids come from.

3. D.N. Angel

D.N. Angel seems weird and too over-the-top at first. But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover!

As the story progresses, more mysteries are uncovered and more questions arise and soon enough you will sit at the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. It is a story with innocent romance and fantasy elements and certainly deserves you giving it a try.

2. Angel Beats!

You might notice that nobody in this image looks much like an angel. Yet they are indeed the angels in question.

But this anime series are set in a mysterious realm with unusual rules, and in both cases the lead character is just trying to figure out how they got there and what to do now.

1. Haibane Renmei

Many people call Haibane Renmei a piece of art, created by Yoshitoshi Abe who has a more than unique style. It is a slow and mysterious story that features a little bit of slice of life and a little bit of drama.

The appeal of this show is hard to define since it comes from the overall atmosphere created through the drawings, the characters and the pace of the story. Check out Haibane Renmei even if you are not a fan of angels - you will not be disappointed.
