Top 10 Most Outrageous Outfits in Anime

Sometimes in anime, characters find themselves fighting in their formalwear, rather than traditional battle armor.

From hunting bounties in a fancy suit to to thwarting evil in a colourful sailor outfit, these are the styles that make it look great.

Here we count down the 10 most outrageous outfits in anime.

10. JOJO’S Bizarre Adventures

It may have started in the 80’s, when fashion was more adventurous, but that still can’t explain some of the designs that have emerged from the many volumes of this manga.

It doesn’t help that Hirohiko Araki likes picking colour schemes no one else would dare come near.

Apparently he doesn’t set colour schemes for many of his characters, so you’ll never know what colour clash you’ll see next.

9. Gyilty Crown – Inori Yuzuriha

Some of us have wondered why would she wear that and how does it stay on so perfectly?

These are mysteries that keep them awake at night.

8. Horizon In The Middle Of Nowhere

It's hard to say if this is a sci-fi thing, an-in world uniform thing or a fanservice thing or if it’s actually just super comfy but none of the girls in this anime seem to know what skirts or pants are.

Just how do they fare in Winter? Quite concerned.

7. Strike Witches

Darling, don’t you know? Going pantless is SO in right now.

6. World Conquest Zvezda Plot

You can’t really be an evil organisation without a fair share of weird outfits.

However, we have to question the nipple-slip prevention techniques in play here,

They could sell the secrets to the celebrities and take over the world that way.

5. Star Driver

On one side, we have the magical marching band. On the other, we have the evil circus bondage club.

Who will win? Who will dominate the catwalk?!

4. Sailor Moon – Amazon Trio

It’s not a stretch to say the fashion in Sailor Moon has dated somewhat. In some cases, the fashions are bearable or probably due for a revival anytime soon.

But some of the outfits are so out there that you’d hope never to see them in real life outside of an anime convention.

Take, for example, the peculiar stylings of the Amazon Trio.

Well, considering they were originally a tiger, a hawk, and a fish I guess we can’t really diss their fashion sense. Much.

3. Date A Live – Yamai Twins

Ah yes, that old standard. Stick a bunch of belts together and you’ve made a perfect costume.

Even better, they added some chains and a lock, even though the chains aren’t attached to anything.

So remember kids, if you’re going out to a dinner and don’t know what to wear, just strap some belts all over you and put on some stockings to keep warm.

2. One Piece

There’s so much going on in this series, where should we start? The main cast are (mostly) pretty well coordinated, but some of the other characters…

We have a man who dresses as a swan, another with a massive flamingo feather coat, a buff man in speedos, assorted crazy, oversized hair styles… And if you want some racially stereotyped costumes, One Piece has you covered on that end too!

Perhaps the treasure all the pirates are looking for is actually a flamboyant “one-piece” swimsuit.

1. Kill La Kill

You can’t blame any one character for the disasters found here; many of the characters wear peculiar clothes (if they wear anything at all, that is!).

Of course, that’s all part of the point, but that won’t change the expression your mother will make when she sees you putting up that Ryuko poster.

After all that, you should be ready for whatever costume changes Eurovision throws your way.
