Dragon Ball Is Getting Its First New TV Anime in 18 Years!

On Tuesday, Toei Animation announced the return of Dragon Ball with a brand-new anime called Dragon Ball Super.

The show is expected to debut on Japan’s Fuji TV starting this July (the North American air date has not been announced).

This marks the return of the beloved anime after 18 years, with the last new episode of Dragon Ball GT airing back in 1997.

The story for the new series will be a direct sequel to Dragon Ball Z, and will take place after the events of the Majin Buu saga.

Where we saw Goku kill off Majin Buu with a devastating Spirit Bomb.

According to Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki, series creator Akira Toriyama is writing the story.

The new anime will not acknowledge the events of Dragon Ball GT.

While Dragon Ball GT took place after Dragon Ball Z, it’s considered non-canon as it did not adapt the original Akira Toriyama manga series.

Masako Nozawa, the original Japanese voice of Goku, Son Gohan, and Son Goten, will be reprising her roles.

She commented through a press release, “I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor.”
