Avatar: The Last Airbender Returns to Comics This Fall

Dark Horse will publish the next volume of its popular graphic novel series based on Avatar: The Last Airbender on Oct. 10. A new one-shot anthology comic, titled Avatar: The Last Airbender – Team Avatar Tales, will debut a month earlier.

Subtitled Imbalance, the new Avatar story arc will unfold over three volumes, like previous installments. According to Entertainment Weekly, the part part of the trilogy will see Aang, Katara, Sokka and Toph grapple with a conflict between benders and non-benders in an industrial town.

The one-shot anthology will collect some comics previously released on Free Comic Book Day, alongside new stories. Featured creators include Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese), Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City) , Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), Ron Koertge (Vampire Planet), Dave Scheidt (Wrapped Up) and Sara Goetter (Dungeon Critters).

Imbalance Part One will mark the start of the tenure by new creative team Hicks and artist Peter Wartman (Over the Wall). They take over from Yang and Gurihiru (The Unbelievable Gwenpool), who started working on the series in 2012 with the publication of The Promise.

Debuting in 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender was co-created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who will continue to collaborate with Hicks and Wartman on the comic. The popular animated series aired until 2008, and was followed in 2012 by The Legend of Korra.
