Legends of Tomorrow Just Altered the Arrowverse Timeline in a Major Way

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Guest Starring John Noble,” the latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow just changed the Arrowverse timeline. In “Guest Starring John Noble,” the latest episode, the Legends let Amaya and Nate save Zambesi from those that sought to destroy it and steal the Anansi totem. By allowing this anachronism, the Legends freed Mallus from his prison — but only so that they could kill him once and for all.

At the end of last week’s episode, Amaya traveled to Zambesi in 1992 so that she could stop the tragedy that befell her family and her village. When Sara realized this, she sent Nate and Wally to that time so that they could convince her to stop. However, Nate gave in to Amaya and decided to help her save Zambesi. Wally immediately returned to the team to let them know.

Back on the Waverider, Sara and the others concocted a plan to stop Mallus — and that plan involved setting Mallus free. Since they needed an anachronism to free Mallus, they decided to help Amaya rescue Zambesi from destruction. In a last effort to save his daughter Nora, Damien Darhk tried to circumvent the anachronism by sending Grodd to destroy the village, but the Legends were able to halt him long enough for Zambesi to survive.

The Legends must have been successful in saving Zambesi, because Mallus was able to escape. Nora’s body transformed into a hideous winged demon and flew up into the sky before disappearing, which suggests that Zambesi makes it through the battle and Amaya and her family survive.

In the original timeline, Zambesi — Amaya’s homeland — was attacked by a local warlord named Benatu Eshu, who killed Amaya in his pursuit of the Anansi totem. Amaya’s daughter fled with Mari and the totem, but Kuasa was left behind in the chaos. Kuasa remained in Zambesi as Mari was adopted and grew up in Detriot. While Kuasa grew bitter and obsessed with finding the totem, Mari became the hero Vixen. However, since Zambesi was never destroyed, Mari may have never become Vixen and Kuasa could have become the totem-bearer like she was intended to.

At this time, it is unclear if the Legends intend to fix this anachronism after they destroy Mallus. After all, Amaya didn’t remember Nate or her time aboard the Waverider when the team encountered her in 1992, which suggests something happens to make her forget those events. The truth will likely be revealed in the season finale, which airs next week.

Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/Atom, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, Nick Zano as Nate Heywood/Steel and Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash.
