Data for the study was collected via a questionnaire administered to staff within two departments at the University of Huddersfield Business School in the UK; with follow-up interviews. Considerations of the study included whether lecturers perceived that students have the capacity to undertake a dissertation, the value and impact the dissertation may have upon student results, and the demands dissertation supervision places upon supervisors. Key findings are that the dissertation still has currency and offers transferable skills that may have value to employers. One emergent finding was to consider a ‘cut off’ point, in terms of previous academic performance, such that the dissertation route would be open only to the more able students. The data on which the study is based is a set of 100 PhDs. The study found there was a change in science-based doctorates, where some of the early PhDs were written in ways that were less recognized compared with how they are written today. There was continuity, however, in humanities doctorates in that both the early and recent theses were all topic-based in a way Dissertation Writing Services that continues through to today. There was, in addition, a preference for particular thesis types at some of the institutions in particular areas of study. During the Covid-19 pandemic, majority of highethe r education programs were delivered online and programs involving practical sessions were unable to deliver these activities on campus. This study explores the perspectives of students and staff from the sport department at a United Kingdom (UK) university.The findings contribute to our understanding of research genres and have implications for how we teach thesis and dissertation writing in different areas of study as well as what we advise students are appropriate choices to make as they are writing their theses and dissertations. The study is also of relevance to people working in the area of higher education more broadly, and especially those with an interest in doctoral writing.
