I #respectfully disagree. I think the FL is showing signs of an emotional break following a horrific trauma in which she died while giving birth, alone and without anyone to care that it happened. the story telling here can make her come off as brainless, like you say, but if you read between the lines and look at her dead, lifeless eyes, you can see she's suffering immensely and not all there because she is just that depressed. PTSD and other post-partum emotional fluctuations can do a lot to women. And death traumatizes everyone in one way or another. so I like this story and I disagree with your assessment. sorry.
